Last night, I arrived at Holden Beach, North Carolina for the week.

When my family and I embarked on the beach for happy hour, we were surprised by the large group of people huddling a ways away.

The group was surrounding a baby sea turtle nest, and watching as five turtles made their way to the shore.

I was surprised by how early it was. I thought turtles only travelled at night, following the moon.

After watching the turtles hatch, we sat on the beach for hours, admiring the sea, stars and moon.

Earlier in the evening, my father kept commenting that he couldn't comprehend how the turtles knew which direction to head in. Looking up at the bright waxing gibbous, he said 'I think I understand now.'
