If you follow my Instagram, you've seen The Local Cup a thousand times.


I'm usually there at least once a week, either meeting with friends or reading solo.


The Local Cup's layout is simultaneously open and cozy. One of the walls is made up of windows, allowing the space to breathe; while the unfurnished wood furniture and twinkle lights provide the shop's homey atmosphere.


The small staff of about six people are friendly as can be, and can usually be seen chatting with regulars.


Perhaps the most prominent thing about The Local Cup is how it stays true to its name. The walls are lined with paintings and photographs for sale by local artists; the coffee is brewed from Richmond-based Ironclad coffee beans; and the book A Passion for Kindness—written by Tamara Letter, who was basically my fourth and fifth grade teacher—is proudly on display.
